On April 6, a customer came to the District Sanitary and Epidemiological Station in Bolesławiec and brought sanitary inspectors a dead scorpion in a jar. The man claimed that the arachnid had emerged alive from the leaves of a pineapple he had bought either at one of the supermarkets in Bolesławiec or at a local discount store. (The person reporting the incident also said that he had covered the scorpion with a jar and that it had died.)

On April 11, the sanitary inspection checked both stores. Their employees were surprised; they had never encountered such a situation before.

Nevertheless, the District Sanitary and Epidemiological Station is still investigating the entire matter. Among other things, it is analyzing the distribution route of the pineapples, which may have come either from a warehouse in Lubin or from Gliwice. (Inspectors from those districts were notified of the incident.)

The sanitary inspection is also determining whether the pineapples supplied to stores in Bolesławiec undergo fumigation or other sanitary procedures.

The arachnid itself was probably not dangerous to humans. We will return to this topic.
