The incident occurred at the end of March in Bolesławiec. A resident of the City of Ceramics wanted to sell a Honda Civic. She valued it at PLN 2,500.
A 22-year-old man from Opole Voivodeship, who has family in our county, contacted the woman. He wanted to take the car for a test drive. As security, he left the owner… only his mobile phone.
Some time passed, but the 22-year-old did not return from the alleged test drive. The woman realized that she had been deceived and notified the police.
The thief was arrested just after Easter in Opole Voivodeship. He was driving the Bolesławiec resident’s car. He immediately admitted that he had never intended to test the Honda—he simply wanted to steal it. What is more, while driving the stolen car, he committed several more offenses. He filled up at petrol stations and drove away without paying.
The 22-year-old, who already has property-related offenses on his record, was charged on Wednesday, April 4. He could now face up to five years in prison.
The recovered Honda will probably be handed over to its owner as early as Friday, April 6.
