This time, a clash of comedy giants: the Bareja-style comedy “There’s No Rose Without Fire” will meet the Czech genre classic “Adela Has Not Had Supper Yet” under one roof. Both films were made in the 1970s, yet they present completely different approaches to comic stories. The invited guest will be the lead character in “There’s No Rose Without Fire” and one of the film’s originators at the same time – Jacek Fedorowicz.
Jacek Fedorowicz is an icon of Polish comedy, an actor and satirist, and co-creator of recurring entertainment programs on Polish radio and television, such as “Television News” and “60 Minutes per Hour.” The open discussion panel with the satirist will begin at approximately 7:30 p.m.
About the films
“There’s No Rose Without Fire” (1974), directed by Stanisław Bareja – a Polish classic about housing and residency registration. Janek and Wanda live in a small room in a villa whose other rooms are occupied by offices of various institutions. One day, a man named Malinowski visits the couple; he once lived in the same room. He proposes exchanging the room for a new, two-room apartment that he has just received. Janek and Wanda are initially distrustful, but eventually the exchange takes place… yet Wanda’s former husband also moves in with the couple… time shows that he is not the only person registered at the new apartment.
“Adela Has Not Had Supper Yet” (1977), directed by Oldřich Lipský – a Czech parody of crime films. The director combined live-action footage with animated sequences. One of the characters is the American detective Nick Carter. We know that he is a well-known character from popular novels dating from the turn of the century. In Oldřich Lipský’s pastiche, the famous detective arrives in Art Nouveau Prague to solve the mystery of a certain dog’s disappearance and uncover the secret of a carnivorous plant. The hero must face his greatest enemy, who is… the gardener.
