Psychologists estimate that perinatal depression affects as many as one in eight pregnant women. Therefore, as Superstacja reported, the Ministry of Health is working on introducing mandatory depression tests for mothers before and after childbirth.

The author of the report recalled, among other things, the tragedy that occurred—probably for precisely this reason—at the end of January in Lubin. A 34-year-old mother stabbed her two daughters to death: 12-year-old Emilka and 13-month-old Laura. The child-killer then attempted to commit suicide. Doctors saved her life. The woman was placed in temporary detention. She could face life imprisonment.

Let us recall. The funeral of 12-year-old Emilka took place in Bolesławiec. (The deceased teenager’s father is from Bolesławiec.) As Super Express writes:

The grave was covered in white flowers brought to the cemetery by the girl’s school friends. One of the students was so distraught that she fainted.

The new perinatal standards could come into force within the next few months. Details are available in the Superstacja report. What do you think?
