He called us, a reader, who, after reading on the istotne.pl website information about the full-scale skatepark being built along the Bóbr River, went for a walk by the Bóbr. The man was concerned that the contractor had neither raised the riverbank nor built a retaining wall.
As the reader pointed out, this is a flood-prone area (the Bolesławiec resident remembered that floods often reached here, because he once lived near Dolne Młyny). In his opinion, it would be a shame if such a beautiful development, carried out at such great expense, were ruined by a flood.
“The development is not being built in a flood-prone area, but in close proximity to an area of special flood hazard associated with the Bóbr River, i.e. partly within the reach of the river’s one-hundred-year flood,” explains Agnieszka Gergont, spokesperson for Bolesławiec City Hall.
She adds:
The technology used to carry out the development takes into account the conditions of its location in an area that may be flooded by floodwaters. Among other things, the structures and their foundations have been appropriately designed to protect them against additional (exceptional) loads acting on construction objects in connection with the occurrence of a flood hazard and flooding.
Let us recall that the project is divided into several stages. This year, the investor is commencing construction of the pump track, skatepark and climbing wall.
The project will also include ramps; the stairs are to be rebuilt, roads around the structures under construction are to be hardened, and small architectural elements such as bins, benches and bicycle racks are to be installed.
The contractor is Park-M Poland of Stary Sącz. The cost of the works is PLN 5,755,567. The funds come from the city budget. Work on developing the area along the Bóbr for sports and recreation purposes will continue until the end of May 2018.
The next stage of developing the area along the Bóbr includes a sensory park, volleyball courts, a changing-room building, playgrounds, an event zone, a barbecue area, a kayak jetty, a beach and car parking spaces.
