On February 27, at around 9:20 a.m., community police officers from Police Station I in Jelenia Góra went to Słowackiego Street to check a report submitted to the National Safety Threats Map, which indicated that the life and health of a homeless man camping out in the freezing cold could be at risk.

The officers found a dilapidated tent by the river, with a 59-year-old man sleeping inside. It was freezing outside, and the thermometer showed minus 16 degrees.

Since the 59-year-old homeless man was sober, the police officers offered to take him to a shelter. At first, the man did not want to agree, but the officers managed to persuade him.

At the shelter, it turned out that the 59-year-old was severely hypothermic. If he had remained in his tent, he would probably have frozen to death.
