Last November, we reported that the Municipal Social Welfare Centre in Bolesławiec had purchased nine stun guns. “Working at MOPS can be dangerous. People come to us under the influence of alcohol, frustrated and nervous,” Małgorzata Dłużyk, the centre’s director, told us at the time. – “We cannot afford to install monitoring or hire security. So we decided to buy stun guns.” The women were supposed to receive them in January.

However, as we learned unofficially, MOPS employees gave up the stun guns. Małgorzata Dłużyk confirmed this information. But when asked about the reasons for returning the devices, she only replied: “We made that decision.” We also asked whether the city authorities had put pressure on MOPS in this matter. We did not receive a specific answer. The director also did not want to reveal when the decision had been made. She said she did not remember.

Update 2009-02-02 14:35
