On 6 October 2017, Dominik K. killed his mother’s partner and injured her herself. Witnesses confirmed that the woman had repeatedly insulted her son, beaten him, neglected his well-being and failed to provide for his basic needs. Agnieszka K. and her murdered partner, Rafał P., squandered the money Dominik earned and sold the boy’s belongings at a pawn shop to buy alcohol.

On that fateful day, Dominik learned that his mother had once again exchanged some of his belongings for vodka. That was the final straw. According to information we obtained, Dominik acted in a state of intense agitation—understood in psychology as a lack of rational thought—and, as a result, inflicted fatal knife wounds.
Dominik had never been convicted before. Relatives and acquaintances say that he was a quiet and good-natured boy.

There is an individual guarantee for Dominik

Dawid Kołodziej, president of the Polish Psychopedagogical Society, acting through attorney Wojciech Kasprzyk, Dominik K.’s defense lawyer, took advantage of the possibility of an individual guarantee under Article 272 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. What does this mean for Dominik? If the court decides so, there is a chance that Dominik will be released from custody. He would then be placed under police supervision and would have to report to the police station every day.

President Dawid Karol Kołodziej assured that the defendant, Dominik K., would appear whenever summoned by the court and would not obstruct the proceedings in any way. He also submitted a statement accepting the obligations of the guarantor.

The “Free Dominik” campaign continues

The materials submitted to the court also contain information about a petition calling for a lenient verdict, “Let’s Free Dominik”, which, after the entries were verified, had been correctly signed by 1,061 people.

The Polish Psychopedagogical Society encourages people to collect and submit the petition in paper form as well. It can be downloaded from the campaign website: pomocdominikowi.psychopedagog.eu. All signed petitions must reach the headquarters of the Polish Psychopedagogical Society by the end of February 2018.
“I appeal to everyone interested in helping Dominik: please deliver the questionnaires signed by hand to me, or add your name on the PTPP website,” appeals PTPP President Dawid Karol Kołodziej.
