The incident took place on January 19. A few minutes after midnight, the duty officer at the Municipal Police Headquarters in Legnica was notified of an attempted break-in at one of the stores in the city. A patrol from the Prevention Division was dispatched to the scene.
When the officers arrived at the scene, they noticed two men, aged 57 and 51, who began walking away when they saw the police car. As it turned out, they were would-be burglars who had smashed a window at the back of the store. (However, they did not enter the premises because a grille stopped them.)
Moreover, it emerged that one of them was wanted because he had to serve a custodial sentence for failing to pay a fine.
The first suspect was taken into police custody, while the second—because he was extremely drunk—was taken to a sobering-up centre. Both geniuses of crime face up to 10 years in prison.
