Zgorzelec district officers spotted three bicycles while carrying out official duties in a publicly accessible basement in one of the apartment blocks. It turned out that the equipment, worth more than €1,200 in total (over PLN 5,000), had been stolen in Germany.
Criminal investigators took up the case and determined that a 30-year-old resident of Zgorzelec could be connected with the theft. He was also suspected of breaking into a truck and stealing fuel worth PLN 1,400.
The man was detained. He was charged with handling stolen goods and burglary. The resident of Zgorzelec could now face up to 10 years in prison.
