The incident occurred during the night of 15–16 January. Police officers patrolling Hutnicza Street in Lubin noticed a Škoda whose driver was driving as if he were under the influence of alcohol.

The officers decided to stop him for a road check. They clearly signalled for him to stop. The man pretended to stop. However, when the police officers got out of the patrol car, the Škoda driver suddenly accelerated and began to flee. A police chase began.

The fugitive drove through Krzeczyn Wielki and then entered Chróstnik. At one point, the officers cut off his escape routes, forcing him to turn into a dead-end street.

The 41-year-old got out of the car and tried to escape on foot. Without success. He was apprehended after several dozen metres.

As it turned out, the 41-year-old resident of Lubin was drunk—his blood alcohol level was over one per mille—and… he had never held a driving licence. He could now face up to five years in prison.
