We remind you that, according to EU documents, every three months Poland could precisely specify the characteristics of the refugees it preferred when selecting a group to accept. Different countries selected different groups for acceptance. Bulgaria, for example, refuses to accept Eritrean citizens. Slovakia (women and children only), Lithuania, France, and even Germany also presented their preferences. Poland did not exercise this right and accepted no one over the course of two years.

Meanwhile, after six years of war, 2.3 million Syrian children had become refugees.

Initiative "Bread and Salt": give refugee children love

The BREAD AND SALT initiative works to provide direct assistance with the integration of refugee families. Helping refugee children includes, among other things, doing homework with them, providing Polish tutoring and psychological support. Assistance is needed to continue these activities in 2018. The children come mainly from Chechnya and Syria and arrived in Poland with their parents, who were forced to flee violence and persecution.

Thanks to the work of 37 trained volunteers, the children have received regular Polish-language tutoring, help with learning and psychological support for several months. The initiative’s creators cannot imagine ending this project and have therefore decided to ask Poles for help. Children who flee with their families often lose several years of education. And those who end up in places where they do not receive educational support may never return to school.
