The incident occurred on Christmas Day, at around 5:10 a.m., in Legnica. Police officers noticed an Opel whose driver had not turned on his dipped headlights. The officers decided to stop him for a roadside check.
Despite clear signals to stop, the driver had no intention of doing so; on the contrary, he accelerated. He sped through the city streets without using turn signals, changing lanes and direction.
After a few minutes, at the intersection of Oświęcimska and Tatarska streets, the 29-year-old abandoned the car and began fleeing on foot. He was arrested shortly afterwards. (Even hiding in the stairwell of one of the buildings did not help the fugitive).
It turned out that the suspect had fled because he was drunk. He had more than 1.5 per mille of alcohol in his exhaled breath. The man was taken into police custody. He now faces up to five years in prison.
