Barbara Smoleńska, a teacher of economics subjects at Zespół Szkół Ogólnokształcących i Zawodowych im. mjra Henryka Sucharskiego in Bolesławiec, head of Towarzystwo Miłośników Lwowa i Kresów Południowo-Wschodnich, and an organizer of cooperation between Bolesławiec residents, Poles in the Eastern Borderlands and Ukrainians, has been honored by UMWD with the Silver Honorary Badge of Merit for Lower Silesia.
B. Smoleńska’s main achievements include activities concerning the Eastern Borderlands במסגרת the Bolesławiec–Zbaraż partnership and initiatives undertaken as part of the “Save Your Great-Grandfather’s Grave from Oblivion” campaign. Thanks to Ms. Barbara’s work, Polish young people in the Eastern Borderlands learn about the history and culture of Lower Silesia and Bolesławiec, while students from Bolesławiec schools discover the beauty and traditions of the Eastern Borderlands. The honoree undertakes numerous initiatives to strengthen ties with compatriots in the former Eastern Borderlands of the Polish Republic—in Lithuania and Ukraine—activates and brings together people from the Eastern Borderlands, providing them with comprehensive assistance, and fosters patriotic attitudes among the region’s residents.
