We have reported several times on the series of fires at a single residential building in Godzieszów (Nowogrodziec gmina) in istotne.pl. According to investigators, the arsonist is a 23-year-old resident of the house—in private life… the property owner’s son.

The prosecutor’s charges do not cover all the fires the 23-year-old is alleged to have started, because in several cases the losses were smaller and the homeowner did not want to file a motion to prosecute the perpetrator.

The arrested man will therefore face charges for four arson attacks in Godzieszów: two at his own home (21 and 25 September) and two at the local petrol station (24 October and 8 November). At the time, the man allegedly burned a car and a container.

During questioning at the prosecutor’s office, the suspect admitted to the crime. He also gave an explanation. (District Prosecutor Ewa Łomnicka does not wish to disclose details, however).

On Thursday, 23 November, the court remanded the 23-year-old in custody for three months, taking into account, among other things, that he could start another fire if released. The young resident of Godzieszów could now face up to 10 years in prison.
