The first accident occurred on November 5, at around 2:00 a.m., on Słowiańska Street in Zgorzelec. According to the police’s preliminary findings, a 62-year-old Czech man who was driving a bus hit a pedestrian. The 30-year-old resident of Zgorzelec County died as a result of his injuries. The bus driver was sober.
The second incident took place on the same day, before 4:00 p.m., in Ruszów. A drunk 32-year-old woman from Żagań County, who was driving a Volvo passenger car, lost control of the vehicle, crossed into the opposite lane and hit two cyclists—a mother and daughter. The 11-year-old girl emerged from the incident almost unscathed. However, her 32-year-old mother suffered serious injuries.
The perpetrator of the accident had 1.7 per mille of alcohol in her system. She was placed under police supervision. She will now face trial for her actions.
The police, who are investigating the details of both incidents, appeal to drivers to exercise caution and responsibility on the road.
