The tragedy occurred on the night of 1–2 September at the 38th kilometre of the A4 motorway. (We reported on the incident in the article Two accidents on the A4, one person killed). Before midnight, a passenger-car driver hit a man who was crossing the motorway. The pedestrian died at the scene. Firefighters assisted three people who had been travelling in the car—one of them was taken to hospital.
Update
A resident of Kraków County was driving a Peugeot in the left lane. The driver travelling in the right lane managed to pass the pedestrian. Unfortunately, the resident of Małopolska did not. He fatally struck the 44-year-old resident of our county.
Our reader witnessed the tragedy:
In my opinion, it was an act of suicide. I witnessed this tragic accident.
I was driving in the right lane and at the last moment saw the man walking calmly across the motorway at a walking pace. At literally the last moment, I swerved and avoided him, while that white Peugeot was overtaking me, and unfortunately its driver had no chance whatsoever to react.
The man who died was simply walking slowly. He made no attempt to speed up or take any other evasive action, as a normal person who sees some danger would. He walked and looked at the approaching cars—I still have that sight before my eyes, him walking and looking at me. Finally, I would add that if he wanted to get to the other side of the motorway, at that point there was a road passing underneath it, and he could have crossed safely there.
