The tragedy occurred in Jakuszyce (Jelenia Góra County). Preliminary findings by the officers indicate that the 52-year-old motorcyclist, travelling towards the border, moved into the opposite lane for unknown reasons and collided head-on with a DAF heavy goods vehicle with a trailer, driven by a 29-year-old Ukrainian citizen.
The motorcyclist was taken to hospital in critical condition. He died an hour later. (The Ukrainian driver was sober.)
Police are investigating the causes of the tragedy and are appealing to motorcyclists to exercise particular caution.
