The first incident occurred on Saturday, July 29, after 7:00 a.m. The duty officer at the Zgorzelec police station received information that a car was driving erratically along national road no. 30 towards Zgorzelec. The duty officer immediately sent officers to the scene. Police officers spotted the vehicle at one of the petrol stations. It turned out that its 49-year-old driver was completely drunk; he had as much as 2.52 per mille of alcohol in his system.
The second driver caught behind the wheel under the influence was detained on August 1 on one of Zgorzelec’s streets. At around 9:30 p.m., police officers were alerted by residents of Zgorzelec that the driver of a VW was driving erratically, veering onto the shoulder and crossing into the opposite lane. It turned out that the 35-year-old Ukrainian, who currently lives in Zgorzelec, had as much as 2.58 per mille of alcohol in his exhaled breath.
Both men had their driving licences revoked. They now face up to two years in prison.
