The incident occurred on July 4, after 11 p.m. The duty officer at the Lubin police station was notified of a murder that had allegedly taken place in one of the towns near Lubin. The caller, a 32-year-old resident of Lubin Gmina, told the police officer that he had killed his mother with a knife and that she was not breathing. Then he hung up.

The report was taken very seriously. The duty officer sent police patrols and an ambulance to the scene. When the officers arrived at the indicated address, the door was opened by… the caller’s mother. She was safe and well. She was surprised by the visit from the uniformed officers.

It turned out that the son was in another room at the time. He was sitting calmly in an armchair. He was completely drunk, with nearly 2.5 parts per thousand of alcohol in his system. He told the officers that he had been bored, so he had been calling emergency numbers. (It emerged that this was not the first time he had played such a “joke” on the emergency services).

The case is being handled by police officers from the criminal investigation department of the Lubin District Police Headquarters. The 32-year-old “joker” could face detention, restriction of liberty or a fine.
