The Jelenia Góra District Prosecutor’s Office charged Marek L. with murdering his common-law partner, with particular cruelty. (L. struck her approximately 20 times with an axe across her body, including her head and chest, causing extensive injuries that led to her death.) He was also charged with attempting to murder their daughter, who, while trying to save her mother from the attacker, was attacked by him as well. (The convicted man struck her in the head and back with the axe; the younger victim suffered serious injuries.) Fortunately, the daughter managed to take refuge in another room, where she locked herself in.

Marek L. was additionally charged with abusing his common-law partner and daughter.

The crimes described above took place during the night of 7 September 2016 in Jelenia Góra–Sobieszów, in the apartment of the deceased victim and her daughter. During the proceedings, it was established that the accused had a blood alcohol level of 2.1‰ when he committed the acts.

The Regional Court found the accused guilty of the offenses with which he had been charged and sentenced him to life imprisonment. L. will be eligible to apply for parole only after serving 30 years. The man must also pay his daughter PLN 300,000 and refrain from contacting her for 15 years.

The ruling is not final.
