Zgorzelec police officers received a report of a road incident in Zawidów. At the scene, it turned out that a 30-year-old resident of Bogatynia Municipality, who had been driving too fast, lost control of his vehicle and ended up in a ditch. The man was slightly injured and was taken to hospital.

The officers detected the smell of alcohol on the driver. (The test confirmed the officers’ suspicions: the man was in a state following alcohol consumption.) What is more, it emerged that the Bogatynia resident had been driving under the influence of methamphetamine.

Moreover, in the 30-year-old’s car, police officers found a firearm for which the suspect had no permit, illegal ammunition, a blank-firing pistol together with ammunition, as well as a machete and a baseball bat.

The suspect now faces up to eight years in prison.
