The incident occurred in early May in Szklarska Poręba. The victim was in the garden with her friends. As the 52-year-old man was walking past, he noticed a backpack left unattended, so he took advantage of the opportunity and stole it. The thief took a payment card, glasses, cash and other small items. The victim estimated the value of her losses at nearly PLN 900.
The suspect used the stolen card six times, making contactless payments for purchases. The man was arrested. He confessed to the crime.
Police recovered some of the stolen property. The 52-year-old now faces up to 10 years in prison.
