The incident occurred on one of the streets in Bogatynia. A police officer from the Zgorzelec County Police Headquarters, driving his private car while off duty, witnessed a traffic incident in which the driver of a passenger car hit a roadside tree.
The officer immediately stopped and went to help the driver. Fortunately, the latter was unharmed. However, the officer detected a strong smell of alcohol on the driver and notified the duty officer at the Bogatynia police station.
The driver of the Daihatsu turned out to be a 44-year-old resident of Bogatynia. The man was completely drunk, with more than 3 promille of alcohol in his blood. He now faces up to two years in prison.
