Kornel Filipowicz is reassuring teachers in Bolesławiec. There are not supposed to be any layoffs, but teachers will certainly lose part of their positions because 400 children will not attend Bolesławiec schools in the 2017/2018 school year. Female and male teachers for whom there will be no classes or teaching hours are being encouraged to seek employment at several institutions. They will shuttle from school to school to accumulate enough hours for their salaries. This is already causing frustration and does not contribute positively to the image of Polish teachers.

OKO.press reports, citing the Polish Teachers’ Union, that 296 teachers in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship have already lost their jobs, while 487 have lost part of their positions. The situation nationwide looks very bad: 8,933 teachers have lost their jobs—4,872 people were dismissed, while the fixed-term contracts of 4,061 people were not renewed; and 21,667 have lost part of their positions, including 1,138 who will work less than half-time.
