The incident occurred on June 12, a few minutes after midnight, in Rzeszotary (Legnica County). Three men approached the victim as he was leaving a shop. They wanted him to drive them to a nearby town. However, the men managed to travel only a dozen or so metres because the passengers asked the driver to stop the car. At that point, the two men sitting in the back got out of the Fiat. The man sitting next to the driver ordered the Fiat’s owner to leave the car. He threatened to beat him. The owner got out. The aggressor took the wheel and drove away.

Police found the vehicle a few minutes later. The thief crashed it into a tree and abandoned it.

Officers quickly managed to establish the perpetrator’s identity. They arrested him at his home. The 30-year-old was not helped by the fact that he hid from the officers in a wardrobe.

At the time of his arrest, the suspect was drunk. He had more than one per mille of alcohol in his breath. What is more, it emerged that he was also under the influence of amphetamine.

The arrested man was charged with two offences. He was also placed under police supervision. In addition, he was banned from contacting the victim and ordered to refrain from drinking alcohol and driving motor vehicles. The 30-year-old could now face up to 10 years in prison.
