The incident took place in one of Legnica’s supermarkets. The offender took four bottles of alcohol from a shelf and then hid them in a shopping bag. He subsequently crossed the checkout line without paying for the goods. A security guard ran after him and asked him to return the stolen alcohol. The thief began wrestling with him and then fled, abandoning the bag containing the whisky.
Police officers from the Prevention Department immediately went to the scene and noticed a suspicious man running across the street. When the would-be thief saw the officers, he hid behind a hedge and, after a moment, ran onto a bus.
The officers stopped the vehicle. The 27-year-old man was taken into police custody. He will face charges of aggravated theft. He faces up to 10 years in prison.
