Officers from the Legnica traffic police – junior asp. Kacper Ekiert and Sgt. Jarosław Kądziołka – heard a cry for help from one of the cars stuck in traffic. The driver and passenger shouted that they had a daughter in the car whose waters had broken and who had begun to give birth.

The police officers reacted immediately. They switched on their audible and visual signals and escorted the car carrying the pregnant woman to the hospital. Upon arrival, they handed the woman in labor over to the care of doctors. A few minutes later, a little boy, Oliwier, was born.

On May 30, the boy arrived with his mother and grandmother at the Municipal Police Headquarters in Legnica to thank the police officers for their exemplary conduct and to congratulate the municipal police chief, junior inspector Leszek Zagórski, and the head of the Traffic Department, sub-inspector Tomasz Kopta, on having such dedicated officers.

Chief Zagórski gave Oliwier a mascot of the Lower Silesian police – Commissioner Lion. The boy was also given the title of the youngest traffic police officer in Legnica. From the uniformed officers who helped him, the little boy received a teddy bear wearing a white cap, an attribute of traffic police officers. The mascot is meant to always remind Oliwier of the circumstances in which he came into the world.
