The incident occurred on Monday, May 22, in Gościszów (Nowogrodziec gmina). A mother and her son were digging up strawberries when they found a 100 mm artillery shell. The unexploded ordnance was quite shallow, just 5 cm below the ground. Fortunately, no one was hurt. The shell was detonated at a military training ground.
As st. warrant officer Radosław Mazur, commander of Explosive Ordnance Disposal Patrol No. 23 from Bolesławiec, told us, sappers often intervene in Gościszów. Once, they had a case like this: a farmer was plowing a field. When he drove back to the farmyard, it turned out that an artillery shell had become jammed in the plow, between the plowshare and the moldboard. To reach it, half the plow had to be dismantled.
