– Thursday’s meeting was undoubtedly the inspiration for making such a decision – explains to Nieprawdopodobny News the chair of the Bolesławiec County Council, Ryszard Kawka. During the extraordinary session, at which the fate of the special school was decided, a discussion lasting more than an hour took place. Opposition councillors accused the governing coalition in the County of failing to handle the matter as well as it could have been handled. Coalition representatives did not let them have the last word. There were accusations of populism and pre-election self-promotion. The atmosphere in the room was truly heated.

The result? When it came down to it, all the councillors – even those who had protested most strongly – voted in favour.

This brought to mind the English idiom exercise in futility, meaning an action that is futile and doomed to failure from the outset. A County Board member who asked to remain anonymous takes a different view, however: – I absolutely disagree with this opinion. This is an excellent exercise in rhetoric; thanks to it, we all become better speakers and politicians. We have democracy, and criticising those in power is the opposition’s inalienable right. And the coalition’s right is to point out the opposition’s mistakes.

As we have established, the agenda of the County Council session planned for the end of May will include an item: a futile discussion after which everyone will vote in favour anyway. Time will tell whether this solution will be introduced permanently. But why?

(this is an unbelievable news story; the situation described is not real)
