On 20 October, a road collision occurred on the road between Ocice and Mierzwin. A Renault passenger car collided with a truck. The passenger car driver was taken to hospital. Comments under the report included opinions that the road is dangerous and that accidents occur there too often.
People who use this route pointed out that the small stones lying on the carriageway reduce the grip of car tyres. According to drivers, the condition of the road surface is the cause of the collisions. Readers also reported that stones flying out from under the wheels smash car windows. The IstotneInformacje.pl portal decided to look into the matter.
The road connecting Ocice with Mierzwin is a county road. The County Roads Authority, together with the Bolesławiec Rural Commune, carried out a surface regeneration. “Two new layers were applied to the road, it was sprayed with emulsion and covered with screenings,” explains Roman Palczewski, head of the County Roads Authority. After such regeneration, the road is expected to serve drivers for another 3–4 years. The County Roads Authority currently cannot afford a major renovation.
Several accidents occurred on the road after the surface regeneration was completed. Several drivers lost their car windows because of stones flying out from under the wheels. People complain that the road is dangerous. “Everything complies with the law and the applicable standards,” assures Roman Palczewski. “The road is properly marked; there are speed-limit signs. If a driver observes these limits, there is no danger,” he adds.
The same method of renewing the road surface was used on the road from Dąbrowa towards Kraśnik. According to Roman Palczewski, difficulties driving on the renewed surface usually persist for about a month.
