After two months of preparation, the team of Jakub Orłowski, Bartek Arsiuta and Gracjan Vasiliew went to Jelenia Góra for the Euroregion semi-final.
– You could say that the boys went there to gain experience. No one gave them much chance of even making the top ten – says Dariusz Orłowski. – We were astonished when it turned out that the team took third place and qualified for the final in Wrocław. They did not succeed in Wrocław. The heat, the large hall and the examiners’ attitude toward the children, who were treated like adults, got the better of them – the parent adds.
However, the children were not discouraged by this experience. After returning, they continued learning first aid in order to take part in the Little Rescuer competition in Bolesławiec, for grades IV–VI. Last year, the team consisting of Bartek Arsiuta, Zuzia Niedzwiedzka and Jakub Orłowski took first place. It was an outstanding achievement, because the team competed against children much older than them.
From October 2016, the children prepared for the competition, which took place at the beginning of April this year in Jelenia Góra. The team consisting of Bartek Arsiuta, Olga Bajer and Jakub Orłowski took second place and qualified for the final in Wrocław. The final will take place in May, and the children are full of optimism and already accustomed to major challenges.
– Thanks are due to Teresa Góra, who organized meetings with paramedics so that they could train the children’s team – Dariusz Orłowski praises the dedicated teacher. – I am sorry that the authorities of our city are not interested in rescue services and spreading knowledge about them among children and young people. Teresa Góra worked with the children after classes and devoted her free time to preparing them for the competition. A sponsor, Gerreshaimer Bolesławiec S.A., was also found; the company funded T-shirts and fleece jackets and arranged training with a paramedic – the parent adds.
