The publication “Tearing Land from the Wilderness… Memories of Bolesławiec Re-emigrants from Yugoslavia” is the fourth in a series of publications prepared as part of the “Save from Oblivion” project, carried out in cooperation with Gimnazjum Samorządowe No. 2 named after Poles Deported to Siberia in Bolesławiec and coordinated by its headteacher, Maria Subik. Ninety-one students from schools of various levels and 13 teachers contributed to preparing the biographies for this year’s volume, devoted to settlers who came to Bolesławiec and nearby towns from the territory of the former Yugoslavia after World War II. They succeeded in compiling as many as 87 biographies, richly illustrated with photographic materials from the family archives of the people featured. The publication was edited by Prof. Grzegorz Strauchold, PhD, DSc (Institute of History of the University of Wrocław), Ewa Ołenicz-Bernacka and Ewa Szajwaj (Gimnazjum Samorządowe No. 2 named after Poles Deported to Siberia), and Agata Bojanowska and Anna Puk (Museum of Ceramics in Bolesławiec).
The second publication presented, “Residents of Bolesławiec – They Did Not Come from Nowhere. Around the Settlement Landscape of Lower Silesia”, is the outcome of a conference held in Bolesławiec on June 17–18, 2016. The publication contains 32 papers prepared by university lecturers, historians, archivists, museum professionals and researchers of local history. The texts are arranged in the following sections: Local Historical Associations, Bolesławiec, Silesia, Wrocław, Settlement, Village, Etnicum and Varia. The publication was edited by Anna Bober-Tubaj (Museum of Ceramics in Bolesławiec), Dr Joanna Nowosielska-Sobel, and Prof. Grzegorz Strauchold, PhD, DSc (Institute of History of the University of Wrocław).
