Lubin police dispatchers were informed about a car on fire in Rudna municipality. When officers from the local police station arrived at the scene, firefighting operations were underway. The vehicle burned down.
Police reconstructed the circumstances of the incident: a 26-year-old resident of Rudna municipality needed petrol, so he decided to steal it. Using a power drill, he made a hole in the fuel tank. However, the liquid was leaking too slowly. The thief drilled another hole. At that point, the device he was using sparked, and a detonation occurred. The car burst into flames. The amateur fuel thief was unharmed.
The suspect was detained. The 26-year-old now faces up to five years in prison.
