Officers from the Prevention Department of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra detained a 30-year-old man who nearly caused a tragedy. The incident occurred on March 11. Firefighters notified the police that smoke was coming from one of the apartments in a multi-family building in Jelenia Góra.
It turned out that the 30-year-old resident of one of the apartments had locked himself inside, damaged the gas installation and set fire to rubbish. In this way, he tried to kill himself. Fortunately, the firefighters broke down the door in time and extinguished the fire.
There were 16 residents in the building. Thanks to the officers’ quick response, no one was injured.
The desperate man was detained and then placed under medical care. He now faces up to eight years in prison.
