The number of motorcyclists in road traffic is increasing year by year. However, the passion for riding a motorcycle does not always go hand in hand with safety. Police observations show that motorcycle enthusiasts, through reckless riding, a lack of caution and violations of traffic regulations, often create serious hazards for themselves or other road users. A lack of understanding and mutual respect is another adverse factor affecting the safety of road users, yet regardless of what means of transport we use, we all strive for the same thing: to reach our destination safely.
Increased roadside checks will never ensure 100-percent safety on the roads, which is why the Lubin police also appeal to two-wheeler enthusiasts to exercise particular caution and observe the permitted speed limits. Before setting off, motorcycle owners should carefully check the technical condition of their two-wheeler, especially its lights, tyres and brakes. It is also important to remember to maintain a safe distance between vehicles, as the road surface is contaminated and, consequently, the braking distance is longer.
Therefore, motorcyclist, remember that following a few basic safety rules can help you travel safely:
- appropriate clothing – a properly selected helmet, protectors, suitable boots and gloves
- when you get on a two-wheeled vehicle, focus exclusively on safe riding
- always clearly signal when carrying out manoeuvres
- do not race or perform motorcycle stunts on public roads
- do not “squeeze” between moving vehicles – someone may fail to see you
- never suddenly deviate from your line of travel
- do not force a car driver to move out of your way
- never get behind the wheel of a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
