The incident occurred on January 18 at approximately 8:20 p.m. A concerned driver called the Legnica police duty officer. He reported that a collision involving three cars had occurred on Rzeczpospolitej Street. The perpetrator attempted to leave the scene but was stopped by one of the injured drivers.

As traffic officers established, the 27-year-old driver of an Opel failed to exercise due caution and rear-ended a Volkswagen. The Opel then struck a correctly driven Fiat in the opposite lane, damaging the side of that vehicle. The perpetrator—as if nothing had happened—attempted to leave the scene. One of the drivers of the damaged vehicles prevented him from doing so.

It turned out that the 27-year-old was completely drunk. He had nearly 2.2 per mille of alcohol in his exhaled air. What is more, it came to light that the road criminal already had… three court-ordered bans on driving all motor vehicles.

The 27-year-old resident of Legnica was taken into police custody. He now faces up to three years in prison.
