Recently, police officers from Zgorzelec received numerous reports concerning the theft of fuel from parked heavy goods vehicles. The thief’s modus operandi was always the same: the perpetrator, who was unknown at the time, would drive to places where truck drivers parked their vehicles. Taking advantage of the drivers resting or sleeping in their truck cabs, the thief stole diesel fuel from their tanks.
Officers from the criminal department of the Zgorzelec police identified and arrested a 27-year-old man who had moved to Zgorzelec County in October last year. Investigators proved that the 27-year-old was responsible for 12 thefts and burglaries. The young man managed to steal nearly 2,500 litres of diesel fuel. The losses were estimated at more than 10,000 zlotys.
The arrested resident of Zgorzelec County has already been charged. He faces up to 10 years in prison.
