On 13 January, at Wrocław Main Station, in the presence of Marshal Cezary Przybylski and Jerzy Michalak, a member of the Voivodeship Board, an agreement was signed between Koleje Dolnośląskie and Newag for the delivery of new trains. Specially lengthened, five-carriage trains capable of carrying more than half a thousand passengers—these will be the new Koleje Dolnośląskie trains. “The modern rolling stock will be faster and increase travel comfort. Each of the newly purchased trains will reach a speed of at least 160 km/h, making maximum use of the modernised railway sections. The vehicles will be air-conditioned and low-floor, making them easier for people with disabilities to use,” assures Marshal Cezary Przybylski.

The new vehicles will be equipped with comfortable seats with access to power sockets and onboard Wi-Fi. For passenger safety, the rolling stock will be fitted with monitoring and modern passenger information systems. “We will allocate PLN 266.5 million to purchase the trains, of which 80% will be co-financing from the Regional Operational Programme of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship for 2014–2020,” adds the head of UMWD.

The first new trains will be delivered at the end of 2017. The entire order for the new, lengthened trainsets will be completed in 2018. The vehicles will serve the following lines:

  • Wrocław – Międzylesie (Lichkov)
  • Wrocław – Węgliniec
  • Wrocław – Legnica – Lubin – Głogów
  • Wrocław – Rawicz
  • Wrocław – Jelcz Laskowice
  • and other electrified railway lines in Lower Silesia.

The new trains will operate railway connections in the livery of Koleje Dolnośląskie, a regional carrier providing rail services commissioned by the Voivodeship Self-Government. Koleje Dolnośląskie currently has several dozen new and modernised trains serving passenger traffic throughout Lower Silesia. “Our connections are extremely popular with passengers, which is why we are ordering five-carriage trains that will accommodate even more passengers,” says Jerzy Michalak, a member of the Voivodeship Board responsible for rail transport in Lower Silesia.
