The tragedy occurred on New Year's Eve, before midnight, on Sobieskiego Street in Jelenia Góra. As “Gazeta Wrocławska” reported, the 27-year-old driver, a Ukrainian citizen, was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee when, for unknown reasons, he left the road, hit two teenage girls, broke through the barriers and fell into the river.
The driver was drunk, with almost two per mille of alcohol in his system. Both he and the 23-year-old female passenger of the Jeep were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
