Ulrich Moellke from Deutsche Bahn informed the station that Germany does not plan to electrify the Dresden–Görlitz–state border section within the next 5–7 years. Consequently, the Polish side sees no need to extend the overhead catenary from Węgliniec to Zgorzelec, because without electrification on the German side, the investment in the Polish section would be irrational. “We have included the electrification of the line to Zgorzelec from Węgliniec in our plans,” Mirosław Siemieniec from PKP PLK told Muzyczne Radio. “This is an important addition to the electrified line running from the eastern border to the western border; these projects should be completed by 2023.”
