On Thursday, December 8, a seven-person group will travel to Ukraine with approximately one hundred packages that will reach Polish families in the Borderlands. The participants will visit Zbaraż, Sieniawa and Maksymówka. (The latter town was included on the travel itinerary for a reason; it was there that three members of the Bolesławiec Society of Friends of Lviv and the Southeastern Borderlands were born: Michał Tychoń, Ryszard Drobnicki and Tadeusz Żuk). “For Polish families, every such gift, every little item from their homeland, is very important,” istotne.pl was told by Barbara Smoleńska, head of the Society. “Especially for older women, who are happy that Poland has not forgotten about them.”

Students from several Bolesławiec schools took part in the collection of donations: Municipal School Complex No. 1, the School Complex of Commerce and Services (the “Handlówka” community took part in the campaign for the first time and prepared perhaps the largest number of packages), Primary School No. 2, Primary School No. 3 and the General and Vocational School Complex named after Major Henryk Sucharski. Bolesławiec supporters of Zagłębie Lubin also contributed to the campaign. So did scouts from the ZHP Szarych Szeregów Scout Group, who prepared approximately 40 packages. “We believe that even a small gesture can bring someone joy,” Agata Kubica, a scout and student of “Elektronik,” told “ii.” “We did not put only objects, food or sweets into the packages, but also a part of ourselves; each of us gave a piece of our heart.”

It is worth adding that among those travelling to the Borderlands will also be Senior Fire Officer Grzegorz Kocon, district commander of the State Fire Service in Bolesławiec. There is a chance that Bolesławiec firefighters will establish cooperation with their Ukrainian counterparts.
