– First, a 47-year-old resident of Bolesławiec was found by rescuers; a doctor pronounced him dead at the scene. The man left three children orphaned. At 4:50 p.m., rescuers found the body of the fifth miner. .The rescue operation has been under way since Tuesday, involving 13 teams of the Mining and Metallurgical Rescue Unit. Thirty people were in the danger zone; nine of them were taken to hospitals with head, spinal and limb injuries. One person died after being brought to the surface; the second, the 47-year-old man from Bolesławiec, was found by rescuers, and a doctor pronounced him dead at the scene.

The search operation ended on the evening of November 30. As a result of a spontaneous rockburst with an energy of 1x108 J, eight people died and nine were hospitalized. Five people remain in hospital.
More than 120 rescuers from the Mining and Metallurgical Rescue Unit took part in the rescue operation, which lasted nearly 24 hours. “We did everything in our power to reach them as quickly as possible; unfortunately, today we share the tears of helplessness with the families,” Vice President for Production Piotr Walczak told the families during a press conference.
Employees of ZG Rudna who died as a result of the incident:
- A 33-year-old resident of Głogów, a self-propelled mining machinery operator, employed since 2008, left two children orphaned,
- A 47-year-old resident of Bolesławiec, a mechanic repairing underground mining machinery and equipment, employed since 1988, left three children orphaned,
- A 23-year-old resident of Głogów, a mechanic repairing underground mining machinery and equipment, employed since 2016,
- A 24-year-old resident of Głogów, a mechanic repairing underground mining machinery and equipment, employed since 2015,
- A 50-year-old resident of Bolesławiec, an underground mechanic-welder, employed since 2004, left one child orphaned,
- A 42-year-old resident of Głogów, an underground miner, employed since 2002, left one child orphaned,
- A 43-year-old resident of Polkowice, an underground blasting miner, employed since 1991, left one child orphaned,
- A 50-year-old resident of Głogów, an underground shift foreman, employed since 1993, left four children orphaned.
Radosław Domagalski-Łabędzki, President of the Management Board of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A., announced four days of mourning. Some Barbórka celebrations have been canceled, including miners’ beer feasts, women’s gatherings, miners’ reveilles and the Major Fox Parade.
