– The work of police officers from the Criminal Investigation Department involves more than conducting interviews. Together with forensic technicians, they regularly make numerous findings at the scene of an incident and secure traces that are often invisible to the naked eye but are highly valuable in identifying perpetrators of crimes – reports junior asp. Bartosz Łopatka, acting press officer of the Poviat Police Headquarters in Polkowice.
He adds:
This is what happened in the case of an incident at the “Rudna” Mining Plant in Polkowice, where in 2014 an unknown perpetrator stole cabling worth more than PLN 2,500. Investigators sent the DNA trace discovered at the scene in a specially secured package to the Central Forensic Laboratory of the Police.
The man was caught because years later he committed another crime and a swab containing DNA material was recently taken from him. It then emerged that the suspect might also have been responsible for the 2014 theft.
The 29-year-old has already been charged with theft. He did not plead guilty. He now faces up to five years in prison.
