“You have witnessed the implementation of the coalition agreement signed recently. It is a surprising coalition, involving Civic Platform, SLD and the Local Government Forum, even though the Forum has conservative roots. Until now, this grouping had clearly attacked Civic Platform, SLD and PSL and claimed that a salaried member of the Board was a bad idea,” said during the press conference Jan Russ, a Law and Justice councillor. “Meanwhile, the new Board still includes a salaried member, and the deputy starosta is a person from outside the Council. We know that the law permits this, but we want to act economically. What is more, in 2014 Piotr Roman promised that if he took over the County Board, there would certainly no longer be a salaried member.
Opposition councillors stressed that they do not accept a coalition cemented by the position of a salaried member of the Board. They are surprised that Forum councillors, who criticised this type of arrangement as “uneconomical and strange”, are now helping to create it. Moreover, they intend to refer the matter to the voivode, who is to determine whether “everything was carried out lawfully”.
“It matters to us that there be no doubts and that procedures be observed. No one accuses the starosta of being inefficient, especially intellectually, because he is a particularly intellectually capable person,” J. Russ stressed. His club colleague Jacek Rozpędowski dedicated a Latin maxim to the new coalition: Quidquid agis prudenter agas et respice finem (“Whatever you do, do wisely and consider the end!”).
And in your opinion, how would opposition councillors behave if they were governing the county? Would they actually abolish the third salaried position on the County Board, or would they appoint one of their own?
