Police officers from the station in Zawidów arrested, after a chase, a man travelling in a car stolen in Germany. The detainee is a 26-year-old resident of Zgorzelec. The officers also proved that he had committed other offences.
The arrest took place after, during a patrol, police officers noticed a VW Polo with German registration plates standing on the roadside. When the driver saw the police car, he suddenly set off and drove away. The officers began a pursuit.
The fleeing driver did not respond either to the officers’ light or sound signals. During the escape, he violated every traffic regulation until, at one point, he drove into a field, abandoned the car and began fleeing on foot.
The man was arrested shortly afterwards. It turned out that he had been driving a car stolen in Germany several hours earlier. Moreover, the 26-year-old was driving under the influence of drugs.
As a result of further actions, the police proved that the resident of Zgorzelec had committed several other offences. The man was charged with seven offences. The total losses suffered by the victims were estimated at more than PLN 50,000. The detainee now faces up to 10 years in prison.
