I was surprised and disappointed by the fact that the name of M.Sc. EDWARD LERCHER was missing from the text of the “Roll of Honour of the Fallen,” our Reader (name known to the editorial office) said in a conversation. “Are merits being divided selectively here? What kind of historians and contemporary active community leaders are they?”
I promised to return to the subject. Personally, I do not accuse anyone of ill will, especially not the initiators of the 50th-anniversary celebrations, who faced considerable unjustified criticism for mistakes and shortcomings. It is easiest to be a censor standing outside the events. I knew Mr Edward Lercher for many years, especially through his work in county- and city-level National Councils. He was a top-class professional, a specialist in the positions he held, and a wise, kind man, genuinely concerned about the affairs of the community, whose development received all his organizational talent, courage and heart. He also left a good memory at the Bolesławiec Factory of Vials and Ampoules “Polfa”; he had many supporters and friends among doctors and teachers, always impressing people with his energy, knowledge, commitment and dependable attitude toward people and events. He enjoyed authority and sympathy in the local community. The absence of his name from the Roll of Honour of the Fallen (quoted in “Głos”) was presumably an unintended oversight. In my opinion, Mr EDWARD LERCHER deserved to be included in the pantheon of distinguished residents of the town on the Bóbr.
