In September this year, the Municipal Harvest Festival was held with great pomp.
This time, for the first time since the establishment of Gmina Bolesławiec, the hosts were the residents of Trzebień and the surrounding area. The event began with an outdoor Mass, immediately after which the harvest procession set off. First, we had the pleasure of viewing the central wreath made by the residents of Trzebień and the neighboring villages: Trzebień Mały, Parkoszów, Stara Oleszna and Kozłów. A pleasant highlight was the presentation of a symbolic loaf of bread to the Gmina head, Kazimierz Gawron, by the harvest festival stewards, Maria Tobiasz and Andrzej Adaszewski. Maria is a farmer from Trzebień Mały. Together with her husband and son, she runs a 30-hectare general-purpose farm. She is also the village head of Trzebień Mały. Andrzej is a farmer from Stara Oleszna; together with his wife, he runs a 15-hectare farm. Adaszewski is an active village community leader, a councilor on the current Gmina Council, the village head of Stara Oleszna, and a lay judge at the District Court in Bolesławiec.
The choice of harvest festival stewards was therefore not accidental.
Baskets of bread were taken directly from the wreath, and girls in beautiful folk costumes handed it out to the audience. A great surprise for the spectators were the white doves flying out of the wreath. Immediately behind the central wreath, the 24 villages of our Gmina proceeded in alphabetical order. Many of them presented vocal or theatrical performances.
The harvest procession was colorful and interesting. The individual villages’ wreaths were placed on both sides of the stage where the artistic performances took place, creating a magnificent visual effect across the entire stage.
The speech addressed to all the assembled guests and harvest festival spectators was delivered by Gmina head Kazimierz Gawron.
The harvest festival was combined with the ceremonial commissioning of the water supply system for the villages of Trzebień, Trzebień Mały and Parkoszów. Jan Pilch, representative of the company “Renoma,” handed it over to Kazimierz Gawron, head of Gmina Bolesławiec, and Władysław Majkowski, chairman of the Gmina Council. They presented a symbolic bottle of water to the village heads of the three villages: Jadwiga Radwańska (Trzebień), Maria Tobiasz (Trzebień Mały) and Danuta Wydmuch (Parkoszów), as well as to councilors Andrzej Adaszewski and Zbigniew Bożęcki.
The artistic program began with a performance by the orchestra from the Military Unit in Bolesławiec, which presented a splendid military parade program. After the parade, folk, vocal, dance and other groups performed.
A competition for harvest wreaths and baked cakes was held during the event.
The competition committee honored all the wreaths with cash prizes totaling PLN 1,500,000. All 49 competition cakes received awards, and they truly deserved them.
On September 4, the Municipal Harvest Festival brought around 2,000 people to the large field formerly used by the Soviet Army. Every sign on earth and in the sky indicated that it would rain again on Sunday. I think, however, that the sun could not pass up such an event and shone over Trzebień, brightening this year’s harvest celebration with its light.
