At the end of February, we said a final farewell to Bronisław Bomba. We all knew him. Always helpful, willing to assist others, and kind. In recent years, he had been seriously ill and rarely stayed in the city. Before the outbreak of the 1939 war, he was a career non-commissioned officer in the Border Protection Corps. He served in the KOP battalions "Dederkały" and later "Żytyń". Both battalions guarded the border with the Soviet state. From 1 September, the "Żytyń" battalion fought in the 2nd Mountain Brigade formed by the KOP. The brigade was part of the "Karpaty" Army. Sergeant Bomba fought bravely from 1 September, from the battle on the Dunajec to the battle on the San and the attempted relief of Lwów. He then escaped German captivity and returned to his family home in the territory of the so-called General Government. As a career army non-commissioned officer, he joined the Union of Armed Struggle and the Home Army.
Immediately after the war, he settled in Bolesławiec. During the most difficult first years, he worked devotedly here, initially in the Peasant Self-Help Union and later for many years at PSS "Społem". He actively participated in the city's social life. He was a member of a commission of the Municipal National Council and was active in ZBOWiD. His name was entered in the Bolesławiec Commemorative Book. He was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, the September Medal, the honorary badges "Deserving of Lower Silesia", "Deserving of the Jelenia Góra Voivodeship", and others. May the earth for which he fought and for which he worked honestly lie lightly upon him.
