The Saturday-Sunday Recreation Centre JW 4355 in Parkoszów near Trzebień, popularly known as the “Falklands,” has once again, as last year, filled with “civilian” children and young people. This is the result of good cooperation between the military and the municipality. The centre’s commander and manager, Maj. Jan Żuralski, proudly shows visitors around the clean, exemplary facility—as befits a military establishment—where two camps have currently set up their tents: the Youth Camp of the Silesian Military District, run by Maj. Zenon Dudziński, and the Bolesławiec Municipality Camp and Colony, commanded by Grażyna Wężyk. The counsellors at the Silesian Military District youth camp are professional soldiers Edward Kozioł and Piotr Nowak, assisted by Grzegorz Iwanowski. The counselling staff at the Bolesławiec Municipality camp and colony consists of Beata Waszkiewicz, Bogusława Chojnacka, Roman Górski, Kamil Muniak and Monika Reguła, with Bolesław Marecki providing technical assistance. The head chef is Bożena Słobodzian. It is worth recalling that children from low-income families in the municipality attend this camp free of charge, as the costs of their stay are covered by the Municipal Social Welfare Centre. Moreover, thanks to a subsidy from the Municipal Office, the fees for all the other children are also low. The Municipal Culture and Sports Centre provides the municipality’s children with the camp programme, while professional soldiers and lifeguards Dariusz Kaczorowski and Marek Wożniak ensure their safety. When I visited the camp (2 July 1993), the children and young people were being entertained by the SELLENO duo (illusion and magic), Helena and Czesław Paszul from Wałbrzych. The duo presented their considerable skills free of charge, with an almost hour-long programme, as part of their charitable activities. The children and young people lack practically nothing here. After all, we are here to ensure that everything functions properly, say Maj. J. Żuralski and G. Wężyk.
If only the weather were always good... We wish them this with all our hearts.
If Only the Weather...
